LP # 3 - a perfect meal is a happy meal

This is a perfect breakfast for me. If you give me this in the morning, I will already love you forever. This is to show how shallow of a person am I. If you just let me eat the things I want to eat and drink the things I want to drink, I will be fine. This is it.

You can find my other entry here.

my comfort food

This is my idea of a happy meal. Feed me with this everyday and I will never beg off, promise. The red drink is the newest they offer at McDonalds here in the Philippines. Called the Wild Watermelon, I just had to let them take off the ice cream on top as I am not really a fan of soda floats. I don't like the taste of ice cream on my soda.

My comfort food.

10 health benefits of apple

We're told that an apple a day keeps the doctor away, but what exactly are the health benefits of apples? Here are ten reasons to heed the advice of that old proverb.

Bone Protection
French researchers found that a flavanoid called phloridzin that is found only in apples may protect post-menopausal women from osteoporosis and may also increase bone density. Boron, another ingredient in apples, also strengthens bones.

Asthma Help
One recent study shows that children with asthma who drank apple juice on a daily basis suffered from less wheezing than children who drank apple juice only once per month. Another study showed that children born to women who eat a lot of apples during pregnancy have lower rates of asthma than children whose mothers ate few apples.

Alzheimer's Prevention
A study on mice at Cornell University found that the quercetin in apples may protect brain cells from the kind of free radical damage that may lead to Alzheimer's disease.

Lower Cholesterol
The pectin in apples lowers LDL ("bad") cholesterol. People who eat two apples per day may lower their cholesterol by as much as 16 percent.

Lung Cancer Prevention
According to a study of 10,000 people, those who ate the most apples had a 50 percent lower risk of developing lung cancer. Researchers believe this is due to the high levels of the flavonoids quercetin and naringin in apples.

Breast Cancer Prevention
A Cornell University study found that rats who ate one apple per day reduced their risk of breast cancer by 17 percent. Rats fed three apples per day reduced their risk by 39 percent and those fed six apples per day reduced their risk by 44 percent.

Colon Cancer Prevention
One study found that rats fed an extract from apple skins had a 43 percent lower risk of colon cancer. Other research shows that the pectin in apples reduces the risk of colon cancer and helps maintain a healthy digestive tract.

Liver Cancer Prevention
Research found that rats fed an extract from apple skins had a 57 percent lower risk of liver cancer.

Diabetes Management
The pectin in apples supplies galacturonic acid to the body which lowers the body's need for insulin and may help in the management of diabetes.

Weight Loss
A Brazilian study found that women who ate three apples or pears per day lost more weight while dieting than women who did not eat fruit while dieting.

lasang pinoy, sundays week # 2

I don't always see pasta which is colored green so when I chanced upon this dish at French Baker, I immediately ordered one. The name slips my mind at the moment but the flavorful taste is something I won't forget. I love this nameless pasta to bits (like the bacon bits!)

my brother the chef

My brother came by for a quick stop last weekend and while here, I grabbed the opportunity of letting him cook the 2 food Bicolanas are knows for --- Laing (or Natong) and Bicol Express. I really envy his talent for cooking. He can whip up both in 30 minutes tops! While he cooked, I was telling him stories about our friends, cousins... in short, I was being my chika self. He would ask me to watch him so that next time, I can make my own meal but the better (and lazier) part of me opted to just lie down in the couch and blabber away... LOL.

Don't get me wrong. I also know how to cook. It actually runs in my family. It's just that among all of us, I am the worst in the kitchen!

Check out the food prepared by my brother R. Maybe in time, I can start cooking my own version of Laing and Bicol Express. Who knows?

R's famous laing (a hit to my in laws!)

R's manila version of BicolExpress (manila version because the alamang here are way different from the ones we have back home)

R's concoctions Ü

Thanks so much, Bro. You really really rock! Now, where's the water? ;)

are you sweet or salty?

You Are a Salty Person

When it comes to snacks, you're more likely to grab a bag of chips over a bag of cookies.

There's a good chance you're male (men prefer salty snacks)...

Or at least, you feel very comfortable in male dominated environments.

Your taste tends to be complex, sophisticated, and adult.

You tend to crave your favorite restaurant meal... or mom's cooking.

what your fridge say about you

What Your Fridge Says About You

You like to be surrounded by things you love. You aren't exactly greedy, but you can be materialistic at times.

You are a very thrifty person. You don't like to waste money... or food.

You don't tend to be a very adventurous person, but you do surprise everyone now and then. You have a bit of a wild side.

You are responsible, together, and mature. You act like an adult, even when you don't feel like it.

You are likely married, possibly with kids.

As planned, we all trooped to the mall tonight to watch Madagascar. It was a promise we made to the little girl after watching High School Musical 3 last week. It was of course, a ver entertaining flick and we guess, we enjoyed it more than she did.

manic monday # 1

What was the first thing you thought when you looked at yourself in the mirror today?

>> When will this pimple ever go?

Do you have a recurring nightmare? If so, explain.

>> Thankfully I have none. But lately, I have been dreaming about my staff at work. They have not been performing well and that makes me really sad and mad. I bring the sadness and madness even to my sleep. Loser.

Food Friday

The collection of french wines at seven corners.

Change has come

"If there is anyone out there who still doubts that America is a place where all things are possible; who still wonders if the dream of our founders is alive in our time; who still questions the power of our democracy, tonight is your answer.
"It's the answer told by lines that stretched around schools and churches in numbers this nation has never seen; by people who waited three hours and four hours, many for the very first time in their lives, because they believed that this time must be different; that their voice could be that difference.

"It's the answer spoken by young and old, rich and poor, Democrat and Republican, black, white, Latino, Asian, Native American, gay, straight, disabled and not disabled - Americans who sent a message to the world that we have never been a collection of Red States and Blue States: we are, and always will be, the United States of America."

Change has come to America. I am elated. Thank you Lord.

Lasang Pinoy, Sundays Week # 1

This is my first time to join LaPis Sundays and I am giddy with excitement (as usual). I hope you'll like my entry for this week ---

This is the spices that Greenwhich offers to their customers. The orange liquid my husband thought, was vinegar. We just realized after a few seconds that it's not because the FF chain doesn't serve food that needs vinegar heee! Both are so-so in terms of spiciness :) Bicolana ata to! Hehehe!

These on the other hand are real bellpeppers that were handpicked. So, can you imagine the freshiest, spiciest spices available at 7 corners?
